Life in 6th Grade

Happy Sunday!  It was a great end to the week, with picture day, Book Character Day, and most of the students returning! We are looking forward to a more normal week next week!  Here is what is going on this week:  Monday-PE, Latin, Music  Tuesday- Band, Art Wednesday- Music, Band, Latin Thursday- PE, Latin, 1st Drafts of Stories due  Friday- Elementary Assembly, Library, Band, Spelling Test, Geography Quiz  Here is what we are learning this week:  Science- We'll be finishing up our unit on the nervous system. The students will have a test the following Tuesday, October 5th.  Math- Lessons this week will be on fractions, mixed numbers, average, line graphs, prime numbers, facts, and greatest common factors. We'll be completing another investigation on Friday with a fun fraction activity :)  Literature- We'll be finishing up our first novel, Tuck Everlasting! Happy Tuesday!  Thank you for all your kind words and prayers for my mom! I really appreciate it and all the grace shown this past week through all the craziness.  We are looking forward to having the class return this week! We have picture day on Thursday, before PE class, and book character dress up day on Friday. This is to kick off Book-It, which begins in October! Remember, this is optional. Happy Saturday!  We had another great week! I've greatly enjoyed continuing to get to know your kids. They've done a great job of acclimating to 6th grade.  The students have several tests and quizzes this week. We've talked about managing time well and being responsible! Happy Saturday!  We successfully completed our first full week. It continues to be a joy getting to know your kids! We also had our classroom aid, Mrs. Bindschadler, start this week! She'll be helping in our classroom this year and she is such a joy!  We'll be adding more to our routine this week, including spelling. Happy Friday!  We made it through the first 3 days! The kids were absolute champs with the extremely warm weather! We've already been having fun and I really hope that your kids have been enjoying these first few days. With our first full week coming up, we'll be jumping right into our subjects!  Here is what is going on this week:  Monday-PE, Latin, Music  Tuesday- Band, Art  Wednesday- Music, Band, Latin  Thursday- PE, Latin  Friday- Elementary Assembly, Library, Band  Science- We're studying the immune system! We'll be looking at communicable and non-communicable diseases.  Math- We started lesson 1 today! This week we'll be completing lessons 2-6, looking at multiplying and dividing whole numbers, missing numbers in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, order of operations, and fractional parts.  Literature- We'll be starting our first novel, Tuck Everlasting!  Welcome to 6th grade!  This is the 6th grade blog, where the plans and the general outline for the week will be posted at the end of each week. You are welcome to subscribe so you can receive notifications when posts are made. Again, I'll be posting any tests or projects that are due, but daily homework will be the responsibility of your 6th grader to remember.  Here is what is going on this week:  Monday-No School!  Tuesday- No School!  Wednesday- Music, Band, Latin  Thursday- PE, Latin  Friday- Library, Band  In this section of the blog I would typically write out each subject area and what we will be studying in each subject. Since it is the first 3 days of school, we won't be doing any intense academics, just some introductions! For next week I will write out each subject and what we will be doing.
