January 3-7

Happy Monday and Happy New Year! 

I hope your families have thoroughly enjoyed the long break and you had a blessed holiday. We're jumping back into things this week. I'll be out on Tuesday, so the students will have a substitute. I'll look forward to seeing all the kids on Wednesday! 

Looking ahead, the students' speech meet pieces are due on February 10th, which will be the date of our class speech meet. All the students have picked their pieces, so they all can work on memorization. 

Here is what is going on this week: 

Monday- No School!  

Tuesday- Band, Art

Wednesday- Music, Band, Latin

Thursday- PE, Latin 

Friday- Assembly, Library, Band, Spelling Test 

Here is what we are learning this week: 

Science- The students will begin work on their group Rube Goldberg projects! We'll be working on them in class. Students are welcome to bring in items for their project from home. 

Math- Lessons this week will be on adding and subtracting fractions, probability, adding mixed numbers, and polygons. 

Literature- We'll continue to read through Phantom Tollbooth and complete various activities along with it. 

Bible- We are finishing up unit 6 and the students will be completing a review guide. We will also being our next unit, which will have us studying the book of Acts. The entire memory verse will be due on Thursday, January 13th. 

Grammar- This week we will learn about helping verbs. 

Writing- The students will work on limericks this week in our poetry portfolio. 

History- We will be wrapping up our study on Cesare Borgia and study Machiavelli and Pope Leo. 

Geography- The students will be labeling a section of Africa for our next quiz. 

Spelling- Lesson 13 will be assigned this week, homework due on Thursday with a test on Friday.
