January 17-21

Happy Friday! 

I hope your child is thoroughly enjoying their day off and the long weekend! We are thankful for small breaks to keep us going in these winter months. 

The 2nd quarter had ended and report cards will come out at the end of next week. We are looking forward to starting into the second half of the year. 

Continue to encourage your child to work on their speech meet piece! Our class speech meet is on Thursday, February 10th. 

Here is what is going on this week: 

Monday- No School! 

Tuesday- Band, Art

Wednesday- Music, Band, Latin

Thursday- PE, Latin, Literature Test 

Friday- Assembly, Library, Band, Spelling Test, Geography Quiz, Literature Projects due 

Here is what we are learning this week: 

Science- We will start our next unit, which is on matter and the periodic table! 

Math- Math lessons this week will be on adding 3 or more fractions, writing mixed numbers as improper fractions, subtracting mixed numbers with regrouping, and classifying 

Literature- The students will take a test on The Phantom Tollbooth on Thursday. Their projects will be due on Friday. We will review and wrap up the book on Tuesday. A quizlet link has been posted on Google Classroom for students to use for test review. 

Bible- We will continue on in Unit 7, studying the early church, including John and Peter's ministry and the establishment of the church. 

Grammar- This week we will review the proper usage of quotation marks and review classifying sentences. 

Writing- The students' acrostic/concrete poems are due Tuesday. We will then work on sonnets! 

History- We will be studying Erasmus and then wrap up the Renaissance. We will be studying the Reformation in the second half of the year. 

Geography- The students will have a quiz on the first section of Africa on Friday. A Seterra quiz link is up on Google Classroom for students to use for practice. 

Spelling- Lesson 15 will be assigned this week, homework due on Thursday with a test on Friday.
