October 11-15

Happy Friday! 

We're heading into the last two weeks of the 1st quarter. We have several tests and projects due this week, so I've been encouraging the kids to stay on top of things and use their time wisely! 

Wednesday we'll be having a special speaker come in. Pastor Dennis Handley will be sharing his expertise on planes and bring items in to share and talk about! I'm also working on lining up our first field trip, so stay tuned for details on that. 

Here is what is going on this week: 

Monday- PE, Latin, Music 

Tuesday- Band, Art, Math Test, Literature Projects due 

Wednesday- Music, Band, Latin, Bible Test 

Thursday- PE, Latin, Memory Verse due 

Friday- Elementary Assembly, Library, Band, Spelling Test, Geography Quiz 


Here is what we are learning this week: 

Science- We'll continue to learn about flight. We'll have a special speaker and will also be completing some fun activities on parachutes and hot air balloons. 

Math- The students will have a test on Tuesday. Lessons for the other days of the week will be on reducing fractions, adding and subtracting mixed numbers, measurements of a circle, angles, and multiplying fractions. 

Literature- The students' projects on Tuck Everlasting will be due on Tuesday. We'll continue to read through Phantom Tollbooth and complete various activities along with it. 

Bible- The students will have a test on Wednesday over unit 3. They completed a study guide, which is also uploaded on google classroom. The memory verse is also due on Thursday. We'll also start unit 4, which has us studying the week leading up to Jesus' death. 

Grammar- We will be continuing to study prepositions and prepositional phrases. The students will be completing some assessments to be sure they understand. We'll also continue to learn the preposition jingle. 

Writing- The students should work on editing their narrative stories. They'll also be completing a short story prompt in class. 

History- The students will continue studying Lorenzo deMedici. 

Geography- The students are working in class on a group presentation of the state of their choice. They'll receive more work time this week and will present on Friday. The 50 states quiz will also be on Friday. 

Spelling- Students will complete lesson 6 this week. This is a review week, so students will have a 50 word test, all words that they have had in lesson 1-5. Words and homework will be assigned on Monday, due Thursday, with a test on Friday.
