April 4-8

Happy Friday! 

It's the end of the third quarter! Thank you to the many of you who sent in ice cream for our celebration. You are wonderful!! Hard to believe that we are already entering into the last quarter of 6th grade! 

We'll be going on a field trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo on April 19! I still have spots for two chaperones, if anyone is still interested. 

Achievement testing will begin on Friday and run throughout the entire next week. We will not have classes in the morning, as testing will take up the entire morning. Students are allowed to bring snacks on testing days, as we'll be taking breaks between tests. 

Here is what is going on next week: 

Monday- PE, Latin, Music

Tuesday- Band, Art

Wednesday- Music, Band, Latin, Math Test 

Thursday- PE, Latin 

Friday- Assembly, Library, Band, Spelling Test, Start of Achievement Tests 

Here is what we are learning this week: 

Science- We will continue on our study of plants and animals. 

Math- Lessons this week are on writing fractions and decimals as percents, and reducing units before multiplying. Wednesday the students will be taking a math test in groups. Thursday the students will have a test on functions and graphing functions. Friday the students will not have math due to the start of Achievement tests. 

Literature- We will continue to read Redwall! 

Bible- We will wrap up the trial of Paul and unit 10. The students will complete a review guide for the test, which will be the following week. The new memory verse, Ephesians 3:14-21 is due on April 14th. 

Grammar- This week we will review and complete a grammar test, open note. We will also learn about indirect objects! 

Writing- The students should work on the final copies of their papers once I have handed them back after proofing them. This week we will work on using various literary devices. 

History- We will be studying Zwingli this week! Our printmaking project took longer than I anticipated, so we were not able to get to him this week. 

Geography- The students will have a quiz on part of the Middle East in two weeks. 

Spelling- Lesson 25 will be assigned on Monday. The homework will be due on Thursday and the test will be on Friday.

Happy Wednesday!  We enjoyed our short week, with lots of special activities including a chocolate party, a pep rally, and celebrating a passover meal!  We are looking forward to one week of normal before we go into a short week again. February 7-11

Happy Monday!  I hope your child thoroughly enjoyed our rain/snow days! It certainly provided a nice mini break for us all. We'll be adjusting our schedule and jumping back into things this week.  Thursday we will be having our class speech meet! Your child should have been memorizing their piece for the past couple of months. The top 3 performers from the class will move on to the school speech meet on Tuesday, February 22nd.  Tuesday the students will have their spelling test and geography quiz that was going to be on Friday. The students will still do a normal spelling lesson routine this week, with this week being a review week.  Also, a reminder that next Monday is Valentine's Day! February 14-18

Happy Monday!  We packed a lot of things into last week! Your kids performed their wonderful speech meet pieces. They also prepared awesome science experiments that we presented to 1st and 2nd grade! The students are working hard and I love seeing their creativity too.  We have a short week! The students have Friday and Monday off. We'll work hard and get lots done in this short week!  The school wide speech meet is on Tuesday, February 22nd. This event is closed to people outside of the building, but we will be live streaming and recording it.
